Due to a right leg injury sustained during a tight spin in his own zone during Game 2 of the first-round series against the New York Islanders, Pesce has not played since then.

A morning skate that may have given Pesce that chance wasn’t completely ruled out on Sunday. The Hurricanes haven’t skated on game-day mornings on the road in the past, and they had meetings and media availability at their hotel in New York on Monday. Don Waddell, general manager of the Hurricanes, left the door open for Pesce to return in the end before the series against the Rangers. Waddell stated, “If all goes according to plan, he will play games in this round, maybe not right away.”

After winning Game 4 on Saturday night 4-3, the Hurricanes trail the Rangers 3-1 in their second-round series. Evgeny Kuznetsov, Stefan Noesen, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and the fourth line from Saturday’s game were on the ice with Pesce, along with goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov and a few other extra players.
