Stephen Curry won the Lake Tahoe-hosted American Century Championship golf tournament last year, marking yet another career high point. But this year, for a reason that basketball fans would understand, the top player for the Golden State Warriors chose not to participate in the tournament.

Every year, athletes and celebrities compete in the ACC, a renowned golf tournament. This competition typically attracts 93 golfers, in contrast to traditional team sports. Among them are active athletes from the NFL, NBA, and NHL. Notable attendees from the previous year’s event include the four-time champion of the Warriors.

Curry had already participated in at least ten ACCs, including last year when he won the tournament. Before that, though, the All-Star point guard’s previous finish was only in fourth place. Last year, though, was a different story as Curry sank the putt from around 15 feet, securing his win in the process.

With this win, an NBA player won the ACC as well as the championship for the first time. It also won him recognition from his peers, who included Andre Iguodala, a teammate. However, Curry won’t have a good enough motive to defend his title this year.

Stephen Curry, a star for the Golden State Warriors, chooses the Paris Olympics over the Tahoe Golf Tour.
Curry has made the commitment to represent Team USA at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, as opposed to competing in the ACC tournament this year. The player for the Golden State Warriors expressed his viewpoint in a piece for News Nevada.

“I’m sad that I won’t be able to defend my title at the American Century Championship in Tahoe this summer, but I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to represent my country and, hopefully, win an Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Games in Paris,” Curry said.

“I’m excited to visit the Lake Tahoe shores again in July of next year and make even more memories there.” I’m sure Dell and Seth will do a great job representing the Curry family while I’m away, but I’ll be very sad if one of them doesn’t bring home another trophy for our mantel!
