Consistency is the foundation of Ipswich Town’s success, as seen by the core group’s two consecutive Premier League promotions.
In an attempt to acquire players with Premier League experience, such as Eddie Nketiah and Omari Hutchinson, the Tractor Boys are targeting signings.
Dr. Rob Wilson, a financial specialist, that Ipswich prioritize prudent building and infrastructure investment over reckless spending.
As the first side to do so since Southampton in 2012, Ipswich Town has accomplished the incredible accomplishment of receiving back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.

Most of the players on Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys team that had been promoted to the top division were also on the team that was promoted from League One to the Championship in 2022–2023.

McKenna’s team has exciting times ahead of them as they anticipate seeing legendary Premier League locations like Old Trafford, home of Manchester United, and Anfield, home of Liverpool.

However, the Suffolk team’s main goal will be to survive in the top tier; they won’t want to enter the top flight only to make up ground.

The Tractor Boys must have a successful summer transfer window in order to accomplish this, and their newfound Premier League standing will enable them to draw in players who might not have come as a Championship team.

TeamTalk reports that McKenna and company are considering a move for Arsenal forward Eddie Nketiah. The Tractor Boys would not have been able to sign a player who has competed in the Champions League this season if they had been playing in the second division in 2024–2025.

Dr Rob Wilson, Football Finance expert and Professor of Economics at Sheffield Business School told Football League World that Ipswich could spend over £100m.

He continued: “But I would never advise that, as an analyst, my advice is always incrementally build and sign players you know will have a future, rather than aging players that will get you results in the short term.

“Ipswich are a good club that seems to be structured in the right way, so I would expect them to build sensibly and bank a lot of money to reinvest in infrastructure.”

, he said: “Budgets are delivered across the season so Ipswich technically could spend over £100 million if they wanted to.

“They can absolutely be aggressive if they want to.”

That, though, goes against advice and Dr Wilson does believe Ipswich’s owners won’t be running before they can walk in the top flight.

The Tractor Boys clearly boast an immensely talented crop of players, who have won 194 points and scored 193 goals across the 2022/23 League One and 2023/24 Championship seasons.

But the Premier League is a different beast entirely, so McKenna should look to bring players with top-flight experience to Portman Road this summer.

If the Suffolk outfit land the signing of Nketiah, then that would be a strong start to their transfer window, as the forward has over 100 Premier League appearances to his name.

Furthermore, the Gunners forward is 24-years-old, so he fits the mould of a player who the Tractor Boys could develop, as advised by Wilson.

Furthermore, Fabrizio Romano disclosed that although McKenna’s team is eager to retain the deft wide player in Suffolk, Chelsea would be open to let Omari Hutchinson to leave Stamford Bridge on a loan agreement once more.

Hutchinson has flourished at Portman Road, where he scored 10 goals and assisted five more during the 2023–24 Championship season. Renewing his loan deal with Hutchinson would be a wise business decision for the Tractor Boys, as he is a gifted player they could keep without having to pay a transfer fee.
