LondonWorld’s sources claim that Tottenham has leapfrogged Arsenal in the competition to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney in the summer.

In January, there were several links between Arsenal and the then-suspended Toney; however, Kai Havertz’s performance has drawn attention and tempered the speculation.

Despite the fact that Tottenham has scored a goal in each of the last ten league games and that Chelsea has cooled their interest due to Nicolas Jackson’s increasing form, Tottenham remains the only team leading the race. Manchester United and Chelsea were also reportedly interested.

Tottenham are yet to replace Harry Kane who left for Bayern Munich in the summer and even though they made a bright start to the campaign when he left, four straight defeat has led to manager Ange Postecoglou admitting he might have to rebuild the squad in his own image.

Postecoglou told reporters after the defeat to Chelsea: “We need change. Change has to happen.

“You can’t want to alter your course and expect the same people are going to be on that. It’s just not going to happen.

Even though Tottenham had a strong start to the season before Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich in the summer, four straight losses have forced manager Ange Postecoglou to concede he might need to rebuild the team in his own image.

Following Chelsea’s defeat, Postecoglou told reporters, “We need change.” There must be change.

“You cannot desire to change your direction and anticipate that the same individuals will follow you. It is simply not going to occur.

“Yes, there has been some player development over the past two windows, but when I say we still have a long way to go, that’s what I mean.”

The dynamic Toney scored 20 goals in the league the previous season, but he has only scored four in his first 15 appearances this time around.
