Jak Jones had a terrible start to the World Snooker Championship final and put himself a significant hole to overcome.

Suggestions that Jak Jones was under “pressure” ahead of the second session of the World Snooker Championship final versus Kyren Wilson did not sit well with the player. After being thoroughly outmatched in the opening session on Sunday afternoon, Jones set himself a lofty goal.

Just hours after defeating Stuart Bingham in a lengthy semifinal match, Jones found himself back in the ring with a fiery Wilson, who had already defeated four opponents in four games to reach the match that would decide the fate of the Crucible.

And lingering tiredness, combined with big-match nerves, seemed to get the better of the Welshman as he lost seven straight frames before clawing one back at the very end of the afternoon to leave the score at 7-1.

Wilson was the heavy favourite, having already made it to the world final in 2020, effectively leaving underdog qualifier Jones with a free hit at the title. With that in mind, his introduction ahead of the evening session didn’t go down particularly well.

While BBC cameras were pointed straight at Jones, announcer Rob Walker could be heard saying to the Crucible crowd: “He’s under pressure tonight, but he’ll come out and give it absolutely everything.”
