‘The Rocket’ went out of the tournament in the quarter-finals after beating Stuart Bingham 13–10.

Ronnie O’Sullivan’s World Snooker Championship run ended in disappointment as ‘The Rocket’ lost to Stuart Bingham 13–10 in the quarterfinals, ensuring a dream finish was not to be had by the player.

Many observers had O’Sullivan as the favorite to win the Crucible, which would have awarded him a record-tying ninth world title. He performed better than expected in the first few rounds, but he would eventually lose to Bingham.

The outcome was unexpected, particularly in light of the 48-year-old’s previous form.

But it doesn’t appear that he was primarily thinking on competing in the tournament in 2024.

Ronnie O’Sullivan acknowledges desire in winning a world championship.
In recent years, Ronnie O’Sullivan hasn’t been shy to voice his opinions about the professional snooker scene. He has acknowledged that he felt the game wasn’t in the best of places.

His criticism of the authorities’ high-level management of the sport has been constant. Indeed, it appears that he is becoming irritated with the World Championships as well.

In an interview with reporters, he acknowledged that he seriously considered pulling out of the Sheffield tournament.

Until a new sponsor showed up and twisted my arm, I had no intention of participating in this tournament.

Had I not come here, I would have worked with Eurosport for [punditry] days. They’ve been so understanding with me, so I wanted to return the favor.

Life is full of endless things to accomplish.

I lead such a wonderful, active life. I think I would have painted with Damien [Hirst].

It’s hard to envision a situation in which Ronnie O’Sullivan would not have competed in the World Snooker Championship this year, but you do have to wonder how much longer he will dedicate himself to the game.
