Jamarii Thomas intends to attend VCU. The Greensboro, North Carolina native spent his final year at The Burlington School in Burlington, North Carolina native spent his final year at The Burlington School in Burlington, North Carolina, averaging 19.0 points, 7.0 assists, and 2.5 steals. When he faced all-around guard Mikey Williams at Lake Norman Christian High School in 2020, it was one of his best moments of the season. Williams scored 40 points to Thomas’ 25 as LNC defeated The Burlington School, which had Kuluel Mading, a recruit to Howard University at the time, on its roster.

After spending one season at an HBCU, former Norfolk State guard Jamarii Thomas is bringing his skills to VCU. The MEAC Player of the Year for 2023–2024, Thomas, committed to VCU on Tuesday.

NC A&T made an offer to Jamarii Thomas at the same time as the school got Duncan Powell, his cousin, to commit. Finally, he arrived at UNCW. Despite playing in 25 games in the 2021–2022 season, Thomas only scored a little under two points per game in six minutes of activity each time. Throughout the 2022–2023 season, he scored eleven times in double figures, and his minutes also tripled. He scored a career-high 26 points against Stony Brook after scoring 17 against Hampton. When the season ended, he clicked on the transfer link and arrived at the HBCU with Mading.

Thomas proved to be a suitable substitute for Joe Bryant Jr., the two-time MEAC Player of the Year, whom NSU was searching for. This season, Thomas averaged 16.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists. For the first time in program history, Norfolk State defeated VCU and won the MEAC regular season championship. Howard defeated NSU in the MEAC semifinals despite NSU being the favored going into the tournament. In NSU’s two tournament games, Thomas was limited to 23 points and finished the game with a 5-for-20 shooting percentage.

After the season, Thomas used the transfer portal once more, and this time he was headed to Richmond, which meant Norfolk State had to find a replacement. Jamarii Thomas, an HBCU star, is headed to VCU. This story originally published on HBCU Gameday.
