The athlete is scheduled to have surgery.

Consequently, what happened?
Since joining Pirates during the January transfer window from Chippa United, Lebitso has displayed outstanding form.

Even though the player has improved significantly under Jose Riveiro’s guidance, they suffered a setback at Harry Gwala Stadium in their PSL match against Royal AM.

Since then, Pirates have released more information about Lebitso’s injuries.

WHAT PIRATES SAID?

“The game between Orlando Pirates and Royal AM has brought mixed news,” the statement read on the club’s website.
“Just as Orlando Pirates celebrated a commanding 4-0 victory over Royal AM in an all-important DStv Premiership on Sunday afternoon, the Buccaneers have suffered a significant setback with the injury to Thabiso Lebitso.

“The Bucs medical team has revealed to Orlandopiratesfc.com that the 28-year-old right-back has suffered a broken collarbone, which requires surgical intervention. The prognosis of how long Lebitso will be out for will be known post his procedure,” the statement ended.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Lebitso rose to prominence for the Buccaneers with a spectacular long-range goal against rivals Kaizer Chiefs in a thrilling five-goal league encounter back in March 2024.

This impressive performance elevated Lebitso’s status, leading to consistent playing time for Pirates. However, with his recent injury, only time will reveal the duration of his absence from action.

FUTURE ACTIONS FOR PIRATES?
While Lebitso recovers from his injury on the sidelines, the rest of the club will concentrate on getting ready for their forthcoming league match on Wednesday, May 1.

They will also be getting ready for Saturday, May 4th, when they play Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup semi-final.
