In the 195th round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Texas CB Ryan Watts is selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Watts ran a 4.53-second 40-yard sprint at the NFL Combine as a cornerback, while draft rumours raised doubts about his ability to play with receivers in the NFL. Their resolution? A switch to safety would be ideal for Watt, whose 6’3″ size and aggressive playing style. Watt weighs 208 pounds.

After the Steelers’ depth was severely challenged during the 2023 season, Watts offers the team a good reputation in their safety room. Watts may also play as a versatile defender in the passing game by lining up in the slot and helping to neutralise tight ends due to his experience as a cornerback. He’s also a confident and willing tackler.

Watts would be a great defensive chess piece for the Steelers to add to their roster because of his superb measurables for his stature and his ideal attitude for the team’s new image. There’s always room for another Watt for Pittsburgh.
