Jahrome Hughes may be trying to find a way to leave the Melbourne Storm, as the team is eager to begin contract talks.

Former Brisbane Broncos and Queensland Maroons champion forward Corey Parker has revealed the shocking discovery that he has heard “rumblings” that Hughes would want to return to Queensland to conclude his career. Parker made this disclosure on SENQ Radio.

Parker stated on SENQ mornings, “I’m hearing rumblings that one superstar in the game wants to come home to Queensland and be with the family.”

is that player. It’s unclear whether that will happen when his contract expires.

I am aware that his spouse is a Gold Coast native, but right now all I’m hearing are rumblings.

“Watch this space, but it’s unclear if it’s before his contract term or not.

“Going forward, we’ll just have to wait and see what transpires in this space.”

Which Queensland teams might be favourites to land his signing is unknown at this time.

Given that the standout halfback is among the best in the league, it should come as no surprise that Melbourne moved quickly to start talks after hearing rumours.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Hughes’ current deal in the Victorian capital expires at least at the end of 2026, but the Storm have extended his contract until the end of the 2028 campaign.

The claim comes after the Storm already confirmed that they will start talks with fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen in the upcoming weeks, which will further extend the already excessive salary cap.
