We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Campbell believes that West Brom need to be spending big as they received a sizeable windfall from Dara O’Shea’s sale to Burnley.
According to John Percy, the Baggies made £7million from the Republic of Ireland international moving to Turf Moor.
The Clarets managed to negotiate as he had an £8million release clause but with them being the only interested club, it seemed a fair fee to get the deal done.
Discussing this exclusively with West Brom News, Campbell, a Sky Sports pundit said, “I think that money has to be spent towards strengthening the squad.
“He was a very good player for West Brom but the Premier League takes over and you can’t stand in the player’s way.
“They didn’t stand in his way and for him to go Premier League, and a decent transfer fee has come in.”
Thus far, the Baggies have not secured a first-team signing this summer despite Carlos Corberan having to deal with multiple exits.
Jake Livermore and Tom Rogic have also left the club and are now free agents while Karlan Grant also joined Cardiff City on loan.
Daryl Dike is also expected to miss the first few months of the new season, leaving the manager in a bit of a pickle.
It remains to be seen when they begin their transfer activity and whom they decide to bring in as the start of the season is not far away.
