UNEXPECTED EVENT: Bills lost their most potent weapon wide receiver

Since being selected by the Buffalo Bills in the 2018 NFL Draft, Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been Josh Allen’s top target and most potent weapon for the bulk of his career.

You would think that Allen, as the team’s quarterback, would have weighed in favour of keeping the 30-year-old pass catcher in Buffalo given what Diggs’ output has meant for him.

Rather than being upset about Diggs being transferred out of town, Allen described the trade of Diggs to the Houston Texans using platitudes like “nature of the business.”

“Leaving a guy who has played a major role in our success over the past four years is undoubtedly difficult. Diggs told reporters earlier this week, “And again, I can’t thank him enough for when he came in, how hard he worked, and what he taught me along the years.”

Of course, I wish we could hold onto everyone. This summer, we’ve made a lot of changes and lost a lot of experienced leadership, Diggs included. As we approach our seventh year in operation, I suppose that’s just the nature of the beast. I’m paid to be the greatest quarterback I can be and to attempt to lead the players on this team, not to make changes to the squad.

Even while Diggs’ output was essential to the team’s success, his habit of making a show of yelling at Allen when the Bills weren’t winning became into a nearly yearly narrative.

Throughout his four seasons with the Buffalo Bills, Diggs played in 66 regular-season games and recorded 445 receptions for 5,372 yards and 37 touchdowns.

In addition to losing #2 wide receiver Gabe Davis to free agency when the 25-year-old inked a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Bills also lost Diggs in a trade.

Currently, it is anticipated that the Bills will select a wide receiver with their first-round selection, which comes at #28 overall, after players like Mack Hollins, Khalil Shakir, and KJ Hamler elect to forego the position.

Players like Ladd McConkey (Georgia), Xavier Legette (South Carolina), and Adonai Mitchell (Texas) are noteworthy because of where they were at the end of the round. Given that they will have ten selections in the forthcoming 2024 NFL Draft, which will take place in Detroit from April 25–27, the Bills may possibly decide to trade up to select a wide receiver.
