Gipson-Long studied pre-medicine at Mercer University, so if any pitcher on the Tigers has a solid understanding of the information provided by physicians and specialists, it’s him. He had previously seen Braves orthopaedic physician Dr. Tim Griffith in Atlanta and renowned elbow surgeon Dr. Keith Meister in Texas earlier in the week. After being optioned early in Spring Training, White was using the bullpen at Triple-A Toledo. However, in his three outings for the Mud Hens, he hit another batter and walked six of them, giving up four runs in 1 2/3 innings while only giving up one hit.
“We need to position him in the strike zone,” A.J. Hinch, the manager, stated. “He has been inconsistent from the beginning of the season to the better part of spring, so it was time to take care of some mechanical issues and get him to locate his pitches competitively.”
While making a rehab start for Single-A Lakeland on April 7, the Tigers’ No. 10 pick complained of pain in his elbow. He was healing from a left groyne injury sustained in spring training. He figured there could be a problem because he’d never had any elbow issues.

April 15: RHP Ty Adcock was assigned to Triple-A Toledo after being claimed off waivers by the Mariners.
Since Opening Day, the Tigers’ 40-man roster has had one vacant position. A hard-throwing right-handed reliever who has only thrown 46 2/3 professional innings since being chosen in 2019 was brought in to fill the spot because of injury. Last season, the 27-year-old reliever appeared in 12 games for the Mariners, giving up six earned runs on 11 hits in 15 2/3 innings while striking out 11 and without walking anyone. While his slider allowed opponents to hit four home runs, his fastball, which averaged 96.6 mph, was only hit for.148 by them.
“He’s doing fantastic. It’s a good path for him,” manager A.J. Hinch stated. “We are uncertain as to whether he will accompany us on our trip. He’s begun to participate in more baseball-related activities.
He was informed that he couldn’t hit today. That would be like denying a small child a blankie.
