The Mets went to Atlanta to play the Braves in a four-game series after winning their first series of the season over the Cincinnati Reds this past weekend.
The Mets overcame two sets of deficits, most notably a four-run deficit to win game one of the series 8–7.
The game-winning RBI came via a single by Brandon Nimmo in the eighth, his fifth of the evening.
The tying run was on first base in the top of the ninth inning, but the offence could not overcome a six-run deficit as the Braves won game 2 6-5.
The Mets’ game was postponed on Wednesday due to Mother Nature’s second strike. The makeup date is set for September 26.
The Mets bats came alive after the rain stopped, thrashing the Braves 16–4 to win the series.
drab Lindor
Francisco Lindor returned to his previous sequence of struggles after seemed to be on the verge of breakthrough in Sunday’s rubber game against the Reds.
The 2023 Silver Slugger winner only managed two hits in 15 total, both of which were singles. And Lindor took one step.
It’s time for some positive regression on Lindor. He is showing that he has a good eye for the ball because he is making good contact and has not struck out once during the series.
Three observations from the Mets’ series triumph over the Braves
After just one start, the Mets designate an experienced starter for assignment.
A talented right-hander has been designated for assignment by the Mets.
The backup closer for the Mets is Jorge Lopez.
Superstar closer Edwin Díaz was not available for the Mets when they started the ninth inning of their game on Monday, after pitching for three of the previous four days.
Jorge López, a free agent acquisition and 2022 all-star, was chosen to take the save. Lopez would accomplish that, but it wouldn’t be a perfect inning as Matt Olson scored after Michael Harris II singled him to start the inning with a double.
Following Harris II’s steal of second, Lopez would have Travis d’Arnaud pop out and Orlando Arcia fly, respectively, earning his first save in the blue and orange.
In the future, Lopez should have more chances to close deals during this brief segment of the schedule.
