J.J. McCarthy, a Michigan quarterback, drew the attention of NFL scouts after his pro day performance on Monday. McCarthy, according to an AFC college scouting director mentioned by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, was regarded as a “super athlete” with excellent throwing efficiency.
Although McCarthy did not instantly stand out among top quarterbacks such as Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye, his stock has risen in recent months.
One AFC coach compared McCarthy’s pro day to Williams’, praising McCarthy’s surprise arm strength, particularly a throw made under pressure. Despite occasional mistakes, McCarthy demonstrated tight spirals and great ball rotation, gaining praise for his throwing ability.
McCarthy posted outstanding statistics during his final year at Michigan, including 2,991 throwing yards, 22 touchdowns, and only four interceptions, helping the Wolverines win the national championship. Bleacher Report’s Scouting Department ranks him fourth among quarterbacks in the draft class and 54th overall, trailing Maye, Williams, and Daniels.
McCarthy is projected to be picked with the fifth overall pick by the Minnesota Vikings, despite the fact that the Vikings presently have the eleventh pick. Given that Williams, Daniels, and Maye are expected to be picked among the first three picks, Minnesota may want to move up for a quarterback.
