The Washington Commanders are bolstering their defence through free agency, signing a linebacker to help shore up a unit that was the NFL’s worst defence in 2023.

On April 2, the Commanders signed Mykal Walker, a former Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker. Washington has took a significant step towards improving its defence by hiring Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as its new head coach on February 24.

Walker spent his first three seasons with the Falcons, who drafted him in the fourth round from Fresno State in 2020, then played eight games for the Steelers in 2023, when he started five games and recorded 33 tackles.
