Last season, as a redshirt freshman for the Huskies, Brailsford was named second-team All-Pac 12 and FWAA freshman All-American. He transferred to Alabama ten days after DeBoer was hired in Washington. However, the Tide later lost offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and offensive line coach Scott Huff to the Seattle Seahawks, both of whom followed DeBoer from Washington. Chris Kapilovic, Alabama’s new offensive line coach, arrived from Baylor and previously worked at Michigan State.

James Brockermeyer began the spring alternating with Brailsford as the first-team centre and has taken over in his absence. During his first three seasons, Brockermeyer appeared in 15 games but did not start any of them.

“He’s done a really good job,” DeBoer remarked Saturday. “He has a lot of opportunity to capture photos and is hanging in there. The communication has been clear. Those five players have been up there — we put Jaeden out for a couple of plays today, as you mentioned — and he’s done an excellent job. When those possibilities present themselves, you must seize them. He’s taken a lot of photos here during the previous week, six or seven days. It’s great. “Excellent opportunity for him.”

Alabama will host two last spring practices on Tuesday and Thursday, with a portion of Tuesday available to reporters, before its A-Day game next Saturday. The transfer portal reopens for undergraduates on April 16, and
