The linebacker position has been very special in Florida State football’s history. The program has had several All-Americans at the position. Looking into the current landscape at linebacker, veterans Kalen DeLoach and Tatum Bethune exceeded their eligibility.
Senior DJ Lundy returns to Tallahassee for his final season. Behind Lundy, there are unproven pieces with very little collegiate experience. However, fans understand that linebackers coach Randy Shannon does a tremendous job with developing talent.
Interestingly enough, Sims was seen attending one of the Seminoles’ spring practices. This is noteworthy considering that the talented defender recorded 200 total tackles (21 for loss) and seven sacks during his three-year playing career with Florida State.
When asked by the media, head football coach Mike Norvell could not comment anything about Sims being at practice. This allowed Florida State fans to patiently wait for this official news to emerge. All of the Seminoles’ top assistant coaches were kept from a season ago.
The continuity within Norvell’s staff has been consistent. This allows them to showcase that loyalty and trust to a variety of recruits. As most individuals know, today is April Fools Day. On this day, many individuals report false news
However, on Monday morning, Florida State released an official statement that the Seminoles hired Ernie Sims as a defensive analyst. This is a monumental hire for the program to hire Sims as an analyst. It is a low-risk-high-reward acquisition.
This could be able to create a recruiting advantage for the program. During the last recruiting cycle, the Seminoles added three-star linebackers Jayden Parrish and TImir Hickman-Collins. The hope is that Sims could instill technique and work ethic in the current players on the roster as well as recruit highly-touted prospects to the program.
It is great to see that Ernie Sims is officially back home in Tallahassee.
