Leeds United have emerged as favourites to sign Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow ahead of Bournemouth,
The St James’ Park news source claims [22 July] that the Magpies will allow him to jet out of the United States, where he’s on pre-season tour, to finalise his future, which the 32-year-old expects to do in the coming day.
It’s said that the Englishman fancies a move to Elland Road over the Vitality Stadium as it keeps him close to his family.
Sign him soon
Darlow’s arrival should all but seal Illan Meslier’s exit from Elland Road.
Whether that’s on loan or on a permanent basis remains to be seen but a new number one is expected in town.
How Darlow is with his feet will be put to the text as the Whites do need a better shot stopper than Meslier but also one comfortable to play out from the back.
A £5million fee has been mooted but once negotiations begin, that valuation can reduce even further.
If he does not want to join Bournemouth under any circumstances, it also makes Leeds’ job that much easier to sign him.
