It took just half an inning for the tone to be set in game two of Nebraska’s series with South Alabama, but this time it was Nebraska striking the first blow.

Nebraska starter Brett Sears needed just 11 pitches to strike out the side, and ended the frame with a fist pump as he walked back to the Husker dugout.

That got things rolling for Nebraska (8-4) as Sears kept dealing for eight innings, and the Husker lineup pounded four home runs and 16 hits in a 13-2 win over South Alabama on Saturday.

Sears threw 8.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out seven and not issuing a walk to improve to 2-0 on the season.

“It starts and ends on the mound,” Nebraska head coach Will Bolt said. “Especially when you’re the home team and the other team bats first — you’re setting the tone with how you attack and we got them on their heels today, a little like we were yesterday.”
