The Cincinnati Bengals parted ways with a three-time National Championship-winning quarterback on Wednesday. The Bengals signed a few quarterbacks since the summer when Joe Burrow suffered an injury during training camp.
Burrow’s season ended with a ligament tear in his wrist in November. Burrow is hopeful to return for the Bengals’ OTAs this spring.
The Bengals opened up one roster spot in anticipation of a healthy Burrow this offseason. According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Bengals released AJ McCarron.
The Bengals signed McCarron to the practice squad in September when Burrow dealt with his calf injury. They signed him to the 53-man roster in December after Burrow was lost for the season.
McCarron appeared in two games for the 2023 season. He finished four of five passing for 19 yards.
The 2023 was McCarron’s second stint with the Bengals. The highly decorated Alabama quarterback spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Bengals after the team selected him in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
