Carter Smith, a four-star quarterback in the 2025 cycle who had committed to Michigan, expressed his thoughts on Harbaugh’s departure shortly after the announcement.
It doesn’t sound like Smith is reconsidering his commitment. “I’m not really to stressed over it (Harbaugh to the Chargers)…. It sucks to lose him, but I’m in good hands with Coach Moore and Coach Campbell.” Smith’s attitude seems to reflect the idea that Michigan is moving to hire offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore. Moore and quarterback coach Kirk Campbell were more involved in the recruiting process for the talented quarterback. If they are still with the program, the likelihood of Smith staying is high.

Before a decision is made, every job in the state of Michigan must be posted for at least seven days. This includes the University of Michigan’s head coaching post. The university may have already taken a decision internally, but nothing official can be made until the following week. It would be logical to hire Moore after seeing how well he performed in Harbaugh’s replacement during his three-game suspension. Gaining victories over Ohio State, Penn State, and Maryland is a fantastic way to try out for head coaching.
