In order to assemble a competitive team for the upcoming season, the Saints will have a lot of work ahead of them in the offseason. In order to start assembling their 90-man roster, reserve and future contracts are a part of that task. Wide receiver Shaq Davis was not included in their first round of trades, and as of Thursday, NFL Wire, he is now on his way to Philadelphia to join the Eagles.
After going undrafted from South Carolina State, an HBCU, Davis gained popularity among fans in the preseason. He spent last season hanging around on the practice squad even though he did not make the final roster. Due to an unexplained ailment, he was placed on injured reserve on October 9 and was able to rejoin the team on December 7. It is unclear why they did not retain him, considering the team had high expectations for him.
Michael Thomas is theoretically under contract with New Orleans for the upcoming campaign, along with Chris Olave and A.T. Perry. His contract has empty years attached, so it’s possible he’s heading away. That is all there is to it for the receiver position; Rashid Shaheed is a free agent with exclusive rights and will return. With the firing of wide receivers coach Kodi Burns, it seems like a lot will change for the Saints in 2024.
