On Wednesday, the Eagles returned to practice. Offensive coordinator Brian Johnson gave reporters an update on how to better prepare for blitzes, which they will encounter frequently on Monday. He also gave them an insight into Jalen Hurts’ development both on and off the field. In addition, he was questioned about rumors that he was vying for the head coaching position with the Panthers, but he didn’t elaborate.

Johnson stated that while they always prepare for a game with the health of their players in mind, playing those 17 regular season games was ultimately necessary to reach this position. Right now, just their postseason position matters, so they must have a solid plan in place.

When questioned, Johnson remained silent about the possible interview and insisted that his attention was solely on the Monday night game.

He did go on to say later that he can bounce ideas off of head coach Nick Sirianni, who has been a terrific resource for him. Johnson emphasized how wonderful his friendship with Sirianni is, particularly in light of the fact that the two of them were strangers prior to the OC’s visit to Philadelphia.

The head coach must, above all, provide the players with the resources and knowledge necessary to carry out their duties on the field, according to the OC. Johnson termed it a lesson they can take away from the Giants, but he also praised them for doing some unusual things against them in Week 18.

Subsequently, he was questioned about possible alterations Hurts may have undergone since the start of the season, given that the offense hasn’t exactly been clicking.

To tell you the truth, I believe that Jalen Hurts has been playing some pretty, really clean football over the past two weeks in terms of what he’s seeing, what he’s processing, and how he’s viewing it. We simply need to keep making the most of all we have and position ourselves so that we don’t get behind the sticks or put ourselves in uncomfortable circumstances.

Johnson pointed out that while defenses change every week, teams trying to restrict explosive plays are likely using more shell coverages throughout the league. Therefore, he doesn’t think that opponents have been exclusively utilizing Cover-4 and Cover-6 against the Eagles over the last several weeks.
When he discussed how the Bucs defense has changed since their Week 3 matchup, Johnson said that they are unquestionably healthier, have a strong experienced bunch, and have excellent coaching.

Although Johnson spends time with other position groups, Alex Tanney leads the QB meetings, which the offensive coordinator pointed out are clearly different this year. He also clarified that the QB room now focuses more on discussions than lectures because of Hurts’ and Marcus Mariota’s combined experience. Johnson explained that this is what occurs when you have individuals who can provide excellent ideas in addition to having a clear understanding of the vision and current events.
