A number of Las Vegas Raiders players, such as Davante Adams and Maxx Crosby, have shown their public support for Antonio Pierce’s work as the team’s temporary head coach. And with good reason—Pierce’s 4–4 record appears far better than Josh McDaniels’ 3-5 record, especially given that he was thrown into the limelight in the middle of the season without having had a full summer to prepare.

In actuality, Pierce will probably be given serious consideration for the Raiders’ head coaching position full-time. However, as supporters have witnessed in the past, an interim manager does not automatically win over the locker room. Ask Rich Bisaccia about the outcome of it. The Raiders do appear to be high on Pierce, but

Pierce’s future may still be up in the air with one game remaining, but a recent report suggests that the Raiders may try to go elsewhere first.

Antonio Pierce doesn’t appear to be Las Vegas Raiders’ top option

It’s not as simple as just announcing that Pierce has been hired to be the head coach full-time, which may be the main reason why no one in the front office has made any firm announcements as of yet.

The Raiders must abide with the NFL’s Rooney Rule, which mandates that teams interview at least one minority candidate prior to making a final decision, before they hire Pierce—or anybody else, for that matter. This implies that in addition to Pierce, the Raiders will need to interview at least one other candidate.

Recently, there was yet another strange development within the Raiders organization. At a team meeting earlier this week, the Raiders informed the coaches and staff members in Las Vegas that they would not be barred from seeking other employment opportunities during the summer, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

A team that has already decided who will lead it in the future will usually prefer to keep those same employees in place. It appears that this isn’t the situation in Las Vegas. Could that indicate that Pierce will need to genuinely win over the Raiders’ key decision-makers.
