Nebraska football made an offer Sunday to a top young linebacker who recently hit the transfer portal.
Idaho linebacker transfer Xe’ree Alexander reported an offer from Nebraska on Sunday after entering the transfer portal earlier this week.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Alexander earned first-team freshman All-America honors last season from Phil Steele. Alexander tallied 75 tackles, four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 13 games last season
Alexander, a native of Auburn, Washington, has also added offers from Washington, Louisiana Tech, UCF, Minnesota, UConn, Kansas, Montana State, Oregon State, Cal, Washington and others since entering the transfer portal.
During his high school recruiting process, Alexander had been a long-time Arizona State before signing with Idaho over offers from Hawaii and others.
The offer is a noteworthy one for the Huskers, who are slim on roster space, but are still looking to fill needs at certain spots. At linebacker, the Huskers have lost veterans Luke Reimer and Nick Henrich from last season, and freshman Eric Fields is no longer with the program.
Alexander will have three seasons of eligibility remaining at this next destination.
A veteran like C.J. Wilcher knows the temperature in the gym goes up now.
At least it can feel that way when it’s Big Ten hoops and every four-minute segment – check that, every possession – requires a tough-minded presence to claim happiness over sadness.
Nebraska basketball has put itself in a good spot heading into 2024: 11-2 overall, 1-1 in the Big Ten. Wins against Michigan State and Kansas State. Losses against Creighton and Minnesota.
