Jai Camilleri, who signed a trial contract with the Parramatta Eels, has declined his ambition of maybe playing in the National Football League.

The 18-year-old running back and linebacker acknowledged that he accepted the Parramatta Eels’ contract offer without hesitation.

The young player has opted to end his dream of playing in the NFL. He was just named the MVP of the National Schoolboy Gridiron Championships, where he represented Queensland and was chosen for the Australian merit team.

By trade, a hooker, Camilleri will want to establish himself in the Eels Pathways system (the Jersey Flegg Cup and SG Ball Cup) before possibly making his NRL debut.

“I’ve liked blending league with NFL, but I soon realized

“Playing both codes has improved my fitness and we complement one other well. Now that I’m with the Eels, though, I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.

“I moved down to Sydney a few months ago after graduating from Wavell High in Brisbane.

“It would be fantastic for my skill set to play against 21-year-olds in SG Ball and then Flegg Cup next year.

“You never say never, but being an NRL player is now my ambition.

“If one day the chance comes up to go to the USA … who knows … you never say never.”
