Newcastle United’s terrible form continues.Nuno Espirito Santo
In fact, their Boxing Day loss at home to Nottingham Forest could be their worst in the Premier League. After all, the loss to Luton before Christmas was a reasonably tight affair in which Newcastle had a goal ruled out.
Despite Chris Wood’s hat-trick, Forest could have inflicted considerably more damage on Newcastle.
Things need to change after a very concerning performance, dubbed “shocking” by club veteran Alan Shearer.
Eddie Howe revealed what’s been going on behind the scenes after the game.
Eddie Howe reveals what Newcastle haven’t been able to do adequately “in months”
Indeed, Newcastle’s manager claimed that the team has not been able to train properly for “months.”
“I don’t think we were that far apart today,” he explained (via Lee Ryder).
“We need to train properly for perhaps the first time in months.”
Newcastle requires immediate renovation.
It would be irresponsible to reject Newcastle’s rigorous schedule in the midst of an injury issue as one of the causes for their decline outright.
While attributing the current malaise purely to that may be overly simplistic, as Shearer has said, it cannot be disregarded.
Howe has shown himself as a coach, producing enormous results from the likes of Joelinton, Fabian Schar, Sean Longstaff, and Miguel Almiron throughout his tenure.
With more time on the training field due to fewer games in cup competitions, Howe should be able to re-create some of his magic.
If he cannot find a solution, even with the additional training time, this season will begin to deteriorate.
Things must absolutely improve rapidly.
