Cincinnati Bengals-Day, a 28-year-old defensive tackle, was not claimed by any team on Monday afternoon, but the Bengals should have interest in him.
Unexpectedly, the veteran was cut by the Chargers last week. Joseph-Day passed waivers because any team that claimed him would have had to pay him more than $700,000 for the last two regular season games. He can now sign with any team since he is a free agent.
Cincinnati’s defense was not very good in their 34-11 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday. Star defensive tackle DJ Reader, who sustained a season-ending quad injury in Week 15, missed his first game of the season.
Although he wouldn’t completely replace the enormous hole left by Reader’s injury in the Bengals’ defensive line, Joseph-Day would undoubtedly be helpful. This season, he has 11 quarterback hits, three sacks, and 31 tackles.
The Bengals, who are hoping to win their final two games of the regular season and qualify for the playoffs for the third consecutive year, can give him immediate playing time.
