SAD NEWS: eagles QB player is suffering from an unexpected injury

DeVonta Smith of the Philadelphia Eagles clarified any doubts or concerns about his availability for Christmas Day’s game versus the New York Giants. “You know who I am,” Smith said. “I’ll be good, I’ll be out there.” Smith hurt his knee on the first drive of the game against the Seattle Seahawks, but he fought through it, finishing with five receptions for 50 yards. He has missed two practices this week in preparation for Monday’s game, instead receiving treatment for what was characterized as a bone bruise.

He returned to practice on Saturday and spoke about the injury and his status for Monday.

“If I can walk, I can play,” Smith told The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Olivia Reiner. Last season, Smith and the Eagles had a lot of success against the Giants. He caught 12 catches for 131 yards and a touchdown in two wins during the regular season.

Philadelphia and New York met in the Divisional Round of the 2022 playoffs at Lincoln Financial Field, where Smith was the Eagles’ leading receiver in a 38-7 thrashing of the Giants. In the playoff triumph, he caught six catches for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Philadelphia is on a three-game losing streak, which it aims to end against New York on Christmas Day at 4:30 p.m. If the Eagles can’t beat the Giants as 13.5-point favorites at home, it may be time for fans to start thinking about the 2024 season.
