After holding a commitment from Willis (TX) five-star quarterback DJ Lagway for over a year, he made things official with the Florida Gators during the first day of the Early Signing Period. the prized Gators commit joined the class last December, and has been the glue of the Gators 2024 class since then. He’s been an aggressive recruiter for the Gators, and has been a frequent visitor to Gainesville over the course of his recruitment as well.
While Lagway continued to show he was solid in his commitment over the course of the year, teams like Clemson, Texas A&M, and Houston tried to make a late run at him before pen went to paper. Those attempts failed, and he made things official with the Gators and his future head coach, Billy Napier.
“I got full trust in my guy Coach Napier. I been seeing a lot of things on Twitter, but I got 100-percent trust in what Coach Napier is doing and I can’t wait to be a part of it. I will run though a wall for him. I can’t wait to get there and do all the things he and all the other coaches ask me to do so we can get this thing rolling.”
The following season, when Lagway is a freshman, Florida will have a lot of young players back on their team. He sees a bright future in The Swamp as he continues to get used to the program and the Gators being in this 2024 class that Lagway has assisted in building.
Since they are still young, I can already see the talent that will likely be there when I arrive, as well as the talent that will be there when I arrive with me. For me, that is very important. Without the guys up front and the players that catch and run the ball, I am powerless. The brilliance must be all around you.
