Despite the slow start to the offseason, the St. Louis Cardinals have been among the busiest teams.
Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn, and Kyle Gibson are the three new starting pitchers that St. Louis has already added to strengthen the rotation. The Cardinals have already found three starters since the start of the offseason.
The Cardinals are apparently not interested in Dylan Cease, Corbin Burnes, or Tyler Glasnow unless there is a “shocking development,” according to MLB.com’s John Denton. However, there have been some whispers that the team would be aggressive in the trade market to add another great starter to the rotation.
“The Cardinals’ cooldown was a sign of what’s to come from now until the start of Spring Training,” Denton stated. “Since Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn, and Kyle Gibson were added to the rotation, St. Louis is happy with it overall. And despite the apparent trade availability of prospective aces Dylan Cease, Corbin Burnes, and Tyler Glasnow, they probably won’t make another attempt at a starting pitcher unless something unexpected happens.”
There has been some connection between Cease, Burnes, and Glasnow and St. Louis. They are comparable to the finest pitchers the Cardinals could acquire via a trade this offseason. Although St. Louis has signed three starters, some have questioned whether the team will look to add another elite arm.
It appears that won’t be the case at this time. Although there is still a long offseason ahead of us and anything can happen, it appears as though the Cardinals have completed filling up their rotation.
