ANN ARBOR: By summer’s end, Michigan’s football team boasted a national recruiting class ranked in the top six, with 28 talents committed for the 2024 cycle.

The Wolverines, who placed outside of the top 15 with their 2023 class, were primed for a breakthrough year in the recruiting trail. However, Michigan has had a quiet few months despite winning the Big Ten and going unbeaten in the regular season.

Since August 10, it has only received one verbal commitment—three-star defensive lineman Deyvid Palepale from Lancaster (Pa.) Manhiem Township, who flipped from USC on December 9—and has seen three players back out, all four-star prospects: defensive linemen Jacob and Jerod Smith, twin brothers, and edge Elias Rudolph.
