– Florida head coach Billy Napier is expected to meet with an important commitment on Wednesday, a recruitment that has turned into a battle down the stretch. That is McKinney (TX) five-star safety Xavier Filsaime. It will be a an important stop also because this is the first day new defensive back coach Will Harris has been activated to be on the recruiting trail for the Gators, and it’s the first chance for Filsaime to meet with the new staffer. Defensive coordinator Austin Armstrong has also been involved in this recruitment as well, and should be in for this stop as well. Texas has emerged as the threat to the Gators as the Early Signing Period closes in, and are slated to host Filsaime on an official visit this coming weekend. Confidence has been growing since an offer was extended in October in Austin. Texas was able to get Filsaime on an unofficial visit last month, and while they had felt they had a shot with the talented safety, that was when confidence seemed to start growing on their end. Florida will hope the first in-person meeting with Harris, along with seeing familiar faces in Armstrong and Napier, can help swing some momentum back in their corner. Filsaime’s mother resides in the state of Florida, around the Orlando area, and we would expect someone from the Gators to pop in on Wednesday to see her as well.
