Although it may seem strange for Alabama to hire Helow at this point in the season, there are other more sensible reasons why he was brought on. Helow later worked as a graduate assistant and assistant coach under Pruitt at Florida State in 2013. To put it briefly, Helow, Pruitt, and Saban have history together.
Coleman Hutzler, the special teams coordinator and outside linebackers coach for Alabama, is leaving the university to take a position as Mississippi State’s defensive coordinator, which is another reason someone with experience teaching linebackers was hired.
