The Cincinnati Bengals’ Thursday injury report included an unpleasant surprise: WR Tyler Boyd, who was limited with an ankle injury.

Tyler Boyd and the Cincinnati Bengals received some awful injury news on Thursday as they prepare for their Week 14 matchup with the Indianapolis Colts.

Boyd, who did not have an injury designation on Wednesday, was listed as having an ankle issue in Thursday’s report. According to Adam Caplan of Pro Football Network, he was limited during the workout.

The only other Bengals offensive players listed on Thursday’s injury report were tackle Jonah Williams (limited with a back injury), running back Chase Brown (full participant with a hamstring injury), and tackle D’Ante Smith, who missed practice due to a personal matter.

Of course, the Bengals’ most serious injury is Joe Burrow’s season-ending wrist injury. With Jake Browning taking over the offense, it’s critical for Cincinnati to have a complete set of weapons to relieve the strain on the backup.

Despite ranking third on the Bengals’ wide receiver depth chart, Boyd is an important part of the offense. Boyd burst for eight catches and 117 yards against the Houston Texans less than a month ago.

His totals have shrunk significantly since then, but Boyd still draws a lot of attention, especially with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins in the mix.

With the exception of two games this season, Boyd has been targeted five or more times. The Bengals are last in the AFC North with a 6-6 record, but they are still in contention for a postseason position. Losing Boyd would be another significant blow to Cincinnati’s offense.
