The Detroit Lions appeared to be headed for a tremendous blowout victory in Week 13 after jumping out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead against the New Orleans Saints. But when the Saints narrowed the deficit to three points in the third quarter, that swiftly changed.

Ultimately, the win was mostly attributed to the Lions’ skilled pass rushers, including recently signed linebacker Bruce Irvin. Irvin said after the game that the team’s success on Sunday was largely due to their ability to put pressure on Saints quarterback Derek Carr.

Irvin made his Lions debut in Week 13 against the Saints, but he only played 11 snaps while he recovered psychologically and physically. Nevertheless, he made an impression during his little playing time, hitting Carr hard enough to knock him out of the game.

Irvin references his time as Carr’s teammate during their time as Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders players, according to Pro Football Talk. “I played with him [Carr] in Oakland, so I know when you get around him, he gets rattled,” Irvin said. “He’s a hell of a player, but we knew if we got around him, we could rattle him a little,” Irvin said.
