The brother of veteran Cincinnati Bengals starter Carson Palmer, quarterback analyst and former NFL journeyman Jordan Palmer, wants everyone to know that he had high expectations for Jake Browning this season. On Monday night, the younger Palmer took to Twitter, also known as X, to re-post an interview he did in late November on the Rich Eisen Show. In that conversation, Palmer expressed his confidence in Browning’s ability to lead the Bengals in the absence of star quarterback Joe Burrow for the entire season.
Jordan Palmer on Cincinnati Bengals QB Jake Browning
In November, Palmer spoke on the Rich Eisen Show. Following starter Joe Burrow’s season-ending injury, the former sixth-round pick talked about the quarterback situation with the Bengals. Palmer, the creator of the in-person quarterback coaching program QB Summit, had nothing but praise for Burrow’s replacement, Jake Browning, who was out with an injury.
“I was thinking, ‘Wait a second, this guy is pretty good,’ as the week was almost over. His movement, his ability to spin things, and many of the things we worked on happened fast.
Palmer claimed that he didn’t collaborate with Browning until after the latter was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals. Alongside Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Deshaun Watson, among other top signal-callers, Burrow receives coaching from the quarterback consultant.
“When I look back on Jake’s career, several of the things I look for in a quarterback, I saw in Jake,” Palmer went on.In high school, he was utterly domineering, and then you have Washington. He started for four seasons and had a touchdown-to-interception ratio of nearly four to one. He won the Pac-12 two of the three years he was the offensive player of the year.
At Folson High School, Browning’s 91 touchdowns as a senior set a state record for California. In college, Browning was much more successful, starting four seasons for the Washington Huskies. In 2016, he was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year after guiding his team to the College Football Playoff and throwing for 43 touchdowns to nine picks.
Jake Browning: Dominated in Epic Overtime Win on MNF
On Monday night, Browning started the second game of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was excellent on the road, going 32-of-37 for 354 yards and a touchdown against the division leader. In addition, he ran twice for 22 yards and a touchdown. During the winning drive in overtime, the Washington product completed 4-of-5 passes for 35 yards, including converting on a critical third down with an 11-yard pass to Tee Higgins. The Bengals are just one game out of an AFC postseason berth going into Week 14.
