Raiders Fans Rip Into Derek Carr Amid Struggles With Saints

Many assumed Derek Carr signing with the New Orleans Saints would be the move that would put them back in contention in the NFC. Despite all of the national media hype surrounding the Saints’ departure, supporters of the Las Vegas Raiders had a different take. They had watched Carr struggle to live up to the hype year after year and were relieved to see the team’s former franchise quarterback depart.

Things aren’t going well for Carr, who is only 13 weeks into his time with the Saints. He hasn’t looked like a player capable of returning New Orleans to contention. Indeed, some believe he should be benched in favor of Jameis Winston.

Obviously, Las Vegas fans are relieved that Carr is no longer at the helm. With interim head coach Antonio Pierce leading the way, the Raiders appear to be on the right track. They might be back in playoff contention next season if they make the correct moves in the offseason, though a lot will depend on the quarterback situation.

Carr and the Saints, on the other hand, are stuck in what may be a nasty marriage. Carr inked a four-year, $150 million contract with New Orleans in free agency. That transaction could come back to haunt the Saints in a big manner.

Carr has completed 66.2 percent of his ball attempts for 2,761 yards, 11 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 12 games with the Saints this season. Those figures aren’t going to earn him the job that New Orleans is paying him for.

Having said that, the Raiders definitely made the right decision in releasing Carr. While he accomplished some good for the franchise, he is not missed by the city of Las Vegas.
