The Las Vegas Raiders had the option to sell before the trade deadline, but they opted to remain in their current location after general manager Dave Ziegler was let go. It wasn’t because I didn’t care about the players on the squad.
Pro Football Network’s Adam Caplan reports that the 49ers in San Francisco contacted the Raiders on a possible trade for cornerback Nate Hobbs.
In an article published on November 27, Caplan stated, “[The 49ers] looked into several coverage players [at the trade deadline], including Bears CB Jaylon Johnson and other recognizable names such as Raiders versatile CB Nate Hobbs.” Hobbs is regarded by the Raiders as one of their top defensive players, therefore trade talks are not on the table. Hobbs, a 24-year-old cornerback with the Raiders, has improved with age. Rather than trading him away, they would probably want to center the defense on him. At Pro Football Focus, he has the best rating of any cornerback on the team (69.1, ranking 35th overall).
Amik Robertson, the 90th-ranked cornerback for the Raiders, has the next best rating in the NFL. Hobbs should be in Las Vegas for a very long time, barring a major shift.
Antonio Pierce’s promotion to interim head coach improved the Raiders defense. They have shut down three straight opponents, including the top-ranked Miami Dolphins offense, to 20 points or fewer.
Nate Hobbs is a big believer in the defense of the squad.
During his media availability on November 24, Hobbs stated, “I think everybody understands their job and their role on the team,” according to The Athletic. “Everyone is giving. That trust in one another is something we both possess. Like, genuine assurance. It’s not as if you could predict his actions. “I know he’s going to do his job if he’s on the field.”
In Week 12, the defense let up 31 points to the Kansas City Chiefs, sending them reeling. After a week off, the Raiders will take on the Minnesota Vikings, a squad plagued by serious quarterback problems. The defense has to win that game to get back on track.
Injuries have been one thing that has hindered Nate Hobbs over the past two seasons. He played through a ruptured labrum for the most of his rookie season and missed a significant portion of the previous one due to a hand ailment.
Earlier this season, he also had to contend with an ankle ailment that prevented him from playing in three games.
Hobbs stated, “The injury is real and palpable, but you just have to get over it.” It was an all-or-nothing kind of agreement. I had to make a decision. And if you put your mind to it, it’s astonishing what you can imagine. There were moments when I didn’t even give it a second thought and I was unaffected by it while playing.
Hobbs continues to play despite injury despite having already shown the Raiders how tough he is. Despite experiencing some ups and downs on the pitch as a result of his injuries, he is still one of the team’s best defenders. He must continue to be healthy for the Raiders in the final run.
