In a recent report, The Daily Mail provided an update on Everton’s pursuit of Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto this summer. It has been claimed that the Toffees have seen their £15m bid get rejected for the Italian wide player.
Gnonto’s Decent Season In Premier League Football
The 19-year-old has proven his worth as a valuable contributor at Leeds but failed to help them get out of the relegation zone in the Premier League last season. Gnonto scored four times and secured four assists in 28 appearances for the Whites in the previous campaign in multiple competitions.
The Italian sensation was a decent performer in the opponent’s half and deserves credit for averaging 0.9 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He was even careful when distributing the ball in the final third after completing 77% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Go Back In For Gnonto?
Gnonto is a great dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few dangerous runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the opponent’s half and can strike the ball purely and with power from long range.
The Italian talent is primarily a left-winger but can also operate as a right-sided wide player or play in the number ten position if told to do so.
We can expect Gnonto to bring more firepower to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s attacking department. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting spot at Goodison Park next season. At 19, the Italian wing wizard has the potential to be a generational talent which makes him an excellent, long-term option for the Merseyside club to pursue this summer.
Gnonto might even help the Toffees steer clear of relegation trouble in the upcoming Premier League campaign. Therefore, Dyche should consider going back in for the Leeds United whizkid before the end of this summer transfer period.
