Burnley are hoping to beat Leeds United to Gustavo Hamer but Coventry City have allegedly rejected a swap deal.

Gustavo Hamer has been the subject of an offer from Burnley but Coventry City are standing firm

The Daily Mail reported late on Monday that Burnley were working on a deal to sign Hamer.

It was suggested that Hamer is valued at around £15million with Coventry commanding a hefty price for their midfield maestro.

That report highlighted that Burnley could offer defenders Luke McNally and Bobby Thomas to Coventry as part of the deal.

However, TEAMtalk now claim that Coventry have rejected the part-exchange offer from Burnley.

The Sky Blues don’t want to let Hamer go unless it’s for straight cash, so the offer including McNally and Thomas has been snubbed.

Burnley are offering £8million plus those two players, with Coventry still holding out for £15million.

Leeds United face real battle to sign Gustavo Hamer

Leeds will be keeping very close tabs on Hamer’s situation.

The Athletic reported earlier in July that Leeds are interested in bringing Hamer to Elland Road this summer.

Leeds may need to completely retool their midfield with Marc Roca loaned out to Real Betis and Weston McKennie gone.

Add in interest in Tyler Adams and Leeds may need to bring in a number of new midfielders.

Ethan Ampadu looks set to arrive as a defensive midfield option but Leeds will want a more progressive option too.

Rangers ace Glen Kamara has been linked but Hamer would be the ideal signing given his Championship experience.

The Dutchman has been exceptional in the Championship; his record of 11 goals and 10 assists last season was outstanding.

There are two problems here for Leeds; the first is the price tag, with £15million a lot to spend after relegation.PEC Zwolle UK on Twitter: "Well done to Gustavo Hamer's @Coventry_City on confirming their place in the English Championship Playoffs! They will face Middlesbrough over two legs to reach the final at

The second is interest from Burnley, who can offer Hamer a move to the Premier League rather than staying in the Championship.

That may well appeal to Hamer and with Burnley failing with their offer, Leeds face a real fight.
