The Detroit Lions did not put out their best effort against the Green Bay Packers. When a team consistently turns the ball over and allows the opposing quarterback to have one of his best statistical performances of the season, a great amount of introspection is required to determine what caused so many blunders. The offensive line’s bad play was one of the Lions’ problems. Quarterback Jared Goff was pressured throughout the game, which contributed to the veteran quarterback fumbling three times.
Head coach Dan Campbell admitted on 97.1 The Ticket that his team and coaching staff were outmatched and outcoached by their division foe. Do you think they’re overjoyed about it? “No, none of us do,” Campbell replied. “The bottom line is that I was outcoached, our coaches were outcoached, and our players were outplayed.” It wasn’t our greatest effort. We didn’t put our best foot forward after all of that, turning the ball over three times. We might still have a chance.
“Unfortunately, this happens. The embarrassment would be if we followed up with another mediocre performance. That, I don’t think, is going to happen. “I know it won’t happen,” Campbell continued. “So, we know we’re up against a tough opponent in a tough environment, and man, our guys are going to embrace it.” They simply do. They almost always do. We’ll come back stronger. We’re going to put up a good defensive fight.”
Detroit may attempt to activate veteran Bruce Irvin this week against the New Orleans Saints after struggling with their pass rush in recent weeks. When asked, Campbell stated, “We’re looking at everybody, and he’s a guy we’re interested in.” So, we’ll see what happens. He’s someone we’ll be talking about a lot today.” The veteran has been inactive for the previous few weeks as he strives to get back into football shape. Irvin hasn’t played since January, when he was with the Seattle Seahawks.
