TAMPA — Without their leading tackler, the Buccaneers will face one of the league’s finest rushing attacks.
Inside linebacker Lavonte David and cornerback Jamel Dean will miss the Colts’ game in Indianapolis on Sunday.
“Lavonte and Jamel will be out,” Todd Bowles stated following Friday’s practice. “Everybody else will be game-time decisions.”
When asked how much time David and Dean will lose due to their injuries, Bowles said both are “day-to-day, week-to-week.”
Devin White, who has been sidelined with a foot issue this week, worked on a limited basis on Friday.
“He ran around (Friday),” said Bowles. “It all comes down to how he feels on Sunday.” It would be a game-changing choice.
David, 33, suffered a groin injury in the 49ers’ 27-14 loss on Sunday. This season, he leads the Bucs with 90 tackles. Safety Antoine Winfield, Jr. is the next closest player, trailing David by 19 tackles.
Dean injured his ankle while leaping and failing to defend a 76-yard touchdown pass from San Francisco’s Brock Purdy to Brandon Aiyuk.
The Colts game will be David’s first since signing a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the franchise. He has been one of the Buccaneers’ greatest defensive players. He has three sacks, 14 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble in addition to his 90 tackles.
Bowles stated that the Buccaneers will utilize a combination of players to replace David this week.
“It will be packages,” he predicted.
Zack Moss and Jonathan Taylor lead the Colts’ two-headed rushing assault. With an average of 118 rushing yards per game, they are ranked 10th in the NFL.
