Despite MLS commissioner Don Garber’s suggestion that the league will have a soft cap, David Beckham has projected that an MLS team might eventually be created in the Las Vegas Raiders following the Raiders’ successful move to Sin City.
During his stay in the United States, the former England captain’s blockbuster move to the LA Galaxy in 2007 helped to revolutionize the popularity of soccer in the United States. As part of his contract, he was given the opportunity to purchase his own franchise, which he did in the form of Inter Miami in 2018.
The world-famous football great recognizes a good economic opportunity when he sees one, and he now predicts that Las Vegas will be one of the next cities to get an MLS club. With the addition of San Diego FC, current plans for the expansion of the main US league will see the total number of teams reach 30 by 2025.
Now, Beckham has thrown his support behind the possibility of MLS expanding to Las Vegas, calling the prospect a “real opportunity.” In recent years, Vegas has become a popular sporting destination, with the NFL’s Raiders joining the Oakland Athletics this year.
