Dan Campbell, the head coach of the Detroit Lions, is known for his aggressive playcalling style, but it’s safe to say he got a bit too aggressive in the second half of Thursday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, and it cost them.

On fourth-and-3 with just over five minutes remaining in the third quarter of Thursday’s game, Dan Campbell called a fake punt from the Lions’ own 23-yard line. The Packers appeared to be well prepared for the aggressive play call, and the fourth-down conversion attempt failed.

The Packers soon capitalized on their outstanding field position, scoring a touchdown to take a 30-14 lead in the game.

The call could have been the difference in the game, and Lions coach Dan Campbell admitted that he should not have made that decision.

“Yeah, look, that’s a bad call on me,” Campbell admitted. “That’s a horrible decision. I should not have done that to those guys. That is a poor decision. It’s a horrible decision. On me. It is. That was a bad idea.”

After that, the Lions still had a chance to come back, but the decision put the team in a hole they couldn’t climb out of.
