Within the last two weeks, the Green Bay Packers have vaulted into the NFC playoff picture. Back-to-back victories have the Packers comfortably positioned in the eighth seed in the NFC. The Packers (5-6) are in third place, trailing only the Seattle Seahawks (6-5) and Minnesota Vikings (6-5).
As the Packers’ offense begins to gel, the front office will almost certainly continue to invest in the future. One of those pieces may be a 25-year-old running back who could eventually replace Aaron Jones.
Bleacher Report’s NFL Staff advised on Monday that the Packers pursue Moss next season:
With A.J. Dillon set to become a free agency this offseason, Green Bay is anticipated to search for a ‘between the tackles’ sort of running back. While some fans hoped the team would be able to sign Jonathan Taylor, Taylor ended up accepting a contract extension. So why not settle with the Colts’ backup running back?
While Taylor was on the PUP list to begin the season, Moss got off to a fast start with two triple-digit rushing performances in the team’s first four games. Taylor has slowed since his comeback, but the Utah product has already set career highs with 617 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns through Week 10.
In terms of Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones, few athletes have endeared themselves to fans as much as Jones has. Jones uses his position to make a difference in the community, in addition to being third on the franchise’s all-time rushing list. Jones agreed to take a $5 million salary cut in order to stay with the Packers and assist them re-sign other players this summer, as if he couldn’t be more cherished by Packers fans.
Having saying that, the top running back has experienced a slew of severe ailments this season. It started with his nagging hamstring ailment, and now he’s battling with an MCL injury that could keep him out for a few weeks. These two injuries, combined with his $17 million cap charge for next season, may make it impossible to keep him this offseason. It would not be remarkable if the two sides reached an agreement on a restructured contract, but it would also not be surprising if the two sides agreed to move on.
It will undoubtedly be one of the most important decisions the Packers must make this offseason.
