St. Louis got an early start in free agency by signing veterans Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson, but the team still needs to add to its starting rotation. The Cardinals went into the offseason looking to add three starters and have already added two, but none of them are top-tier arms. St. Louis has been linked to aces like as Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Blake Snell, and Sonny Gray, but has yet to snag one.

Lynn and Gibson are both good signings that give depth, but the Cardinals still need to add at least one top arm. According to The Athletic’s Katie Woo, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak intimated that the Cardinals are still looking.

“November 21,” Mozeliak said, as transcribed by Woo. “There is still plenty of time. We will continue to search for ways to improve our club. In terms of what comes next, I believe we will have to wait and see. We haven’t done any research on the trading market thus far. We’ll probably go deeper into that as we get closer to Winter Meetings. But we don’t believe we’re finished yet.”

If St. Louis can land at least one top starter this summer, it has some potential in 2024. The Cardinals’ offense is in fantastic shape, and if the rotation continues to improve, it wouldn’t be unexpected if St. Louis returns to the postseason next year. The Cardinals must now continue to add players.
