Let us all join in the national activity of sports fans and Remember Some Guys, answering the issue of whether Jayden Daniels is the best player GSU has ever faced on the football field (He is, but keep reading anyway!)
Since the program’s creation in 2009, Georgia State Football has challenged itself to play anyone and anywhere, and while scheduling up has had some advantages, the Panthers have seen plenty of very skilled athletes across the line of scrimmage.
With LSU Quarterback Jayden Daniels’ outstanding individual performance on Saturday night, the PT crew discussed some of the best players GSU has had in its 14-year history.
Since the conversation has centered on Jayden Daniels’ Heisman prospects, it seems appropriate to begin with Ingram, the first-ever recipient of the award that Georgia State faced on November 18th, 2010, the program’s inaugural year of existence. Mr. Ingram had a short day at the job, but he still found the end zone once among his 12 carries for 86 yards.
We couldn’t forget Julio-o-o-o-o! On a night when he had seven catches for 86 yards, the future Falcon scored twice. Jones is one of the best wide receivers to play in the National Football League this century and one of the best collegiate players the Panthers have ever faced.
It’s easy to forget the Panthers’ 3-8 2011 sophomore season, but they did get their lunch stolen by the Cougars on September 24th, 56-0. Keenum had an astounding 5,631 throwing yards and 51 total touchdowns that year, with 415 and two of them coming on that fateful September day.
Yes, he only carried the ball five times for 50 yards in Alabama’s 45-3 victory on October 5th, but come on. Derrick Henry here. Future Heisman Trophy winner, nightmare fuel for NFL defenders. That’s all there is to it.
The Panthers’ 45-14 loss to the Huskies on September 20th was tied by a pair of defensive standouts.
Peters had two interceptions in the game, so it’s most likely him, but Thompson was a 1st Team All-American that season, and both have gone on to have long, fruitful NFL careers after being drafted in the first round in 2015.
