The father of Tottenham Hotspur new boy Guglielmo Vicario has claimed that Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest wanted to sign his son in the last winter transfer window.
Guglielmo became Ange Postecoglou’s first signing of the summer after Tottenham completed a deal to take him to the north London club from Napoli earlier this week.
The Italian has been brought in to replace Hugo Lloris, who is expected to depart Spurs in the ongoing summer transfer window after spending more than a decade as the club’s number 1 goalkeeper.
However, the 26-year-old goalkeeper’s father revealed that Newcastle and Nottingham Forest were interested in getting their hands on his son in the January window.
Michele Vicario claimed that Empoli refused to let the goalkeeper go and postponed a departure until the summer.
“Newcastle and Nottingham Forest had come forward for him [in January]”, his father told Messaggero Veneto (via FcInterNews.it).
“But Empoli wanted to postpone everything until the summer.”
